Any person who meets the applicable qualifications for membership in the Society will be considered for Chapter membership. Members and potential members are classified into the following categories:
Practitioners
A senior IT professional in a private, public, or non-profit sector organization who is a corporate/division head or a member of an IT management team supporting the corporate/division IT head with key management responsibilities.
With regards to organizations that primarily sell IT-related products and services and/or offer consulting services (collectively referred to as a ‘Vendor/Consulting’ organization), an IT leader working for a vendor/consulting organization who is not a principal and has no sales or Business Development responsibility is considered a Practitioner.
The CIO/IT Practitioner category includes the following:
· CIOs and CTOs
· CIOs or CTOs direct reports
· Other IT leaders and managers, whose roles significantly impacts the profitability and direction of their company.
IT executives who do not clearly meet the above criteria will be eligible for membership if the Membership Committee determines that the candidate has “significant responsibility.”
Vendors - Service and Product Providers – Non-Practitioners ( 15% of membership quota)
Individuals, such as consultants, recruiters, or representatives of IT service and product providing firms may also qualify for SIM membership by virtue of the contributions these individuals and their organizations make to the IT world. (note - Consultant-Practitioners are essentially practitioners working for Vendor firms who are billable and who do not have compensation that is tied to sales goals.)
Leaders at the partner/principal level who influence the direction of their own company or the direction of their clients’ companies are also qualified. If applicant has responsibility for sales, he or she must be considered a thought leader in his/her field, and must be able to demonstrate that he or she operates at the senior level to qualify.
Only one Sales/Business Development person from a single organization is admitted in this vendor category. A maximum of two service and product providers may not engage in marketing or business development activities at meetings or events.
Please note that given the limit on the number of Vendor Non-Practitioners we can allow in our chapter, Vendors wishing to join should need to show initiatives that add value to our chapter.
Academic Members
A full-time university or college faculty member who is making significant contribution to the IT field. An academician who is a recognized scholar and conducts practice-oriented research and/or is a leader in IT curriculum design initiatives. Someone who has reached a senior level in the academic community and has significant influence over the direction of education in IT disciplines.
Other Leaders
Senior non-IT business executives who play a key role in the use of information technology in their own organizations (i.e., CEOs, CFOs, CMOs, COOs, CDOs, VP of Engineering, etc ).
RLF Graduates
RLF graduates will be automatically accepted at the time of their enrollment and for membership the year during RLF enrollment and the year following a successful graduation provided the applicant’s job has not changed as to preclude him/her from participating in the Chapter. At the end of the membership period, the RLF graduate can transition to a full member without application provided they do not let their membership lapse.
Additional Provisions
Emeritus status may be afforded to retired members.
Members in Transition The Chapter maintains a “members in transition” program for members who become unemployed during a paid membership year. Applicable dues and/or meeting costs still apply.
At Large Membership
SIM Philadelphia memberships also include membership in SIM International and include all the benefits. If a member chooses to become an “At Large” SIM International member (as opposed to a SIM Philadelphia member) or a member of another chapter, they will be allowed to attend our meetings for an additional $100 charge for each meeting.
Note: Members that gained acceptance as Practitioners or Academics and transitioned to Vendor roles will not be considered as vendors during the transition year. Upon renewal, they will be re-classified appropriately; this also applies for members who joined as Vendors and transition to a Practitioner or Academic role.
